Description: The International Institute provides funding for conferences and workshops focused on international and area studies. Grants of up to $2,000 are available to graduate and professional school students and faculty for the purpose of planning and conducting research-related conferences, symposia, and workshops in area and international studies. Hybrid and virtual conferences organized by U-M faculty and students will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Event Focus: Events must be centered on international or area studies. Research with components outside the United States does not automatically qualify as international and area studies. Preference will be given to events with a strong interdisciplinary focus.
- Applicants: Only U-M faculty or graduate students may apply. If the primary organizer is not a faculty member or graduate student, eligible team members may apply and note the faculty or graduate student organizer.
- Event Location: Events must be held on the U-M campus.
- Cost Sharing: Cost sharing is required for grant approval.
Application Deadline & Submission: Rolling
Applications must include:
- Detailed budget, including information on other sources of funding sought or confirmed
- A proposal that outlines the planned event
