About
Warsan Salah serves as the Academic Program Specialist for the Center of Middle Eastern and North African Studies (CMENAS) at the University of Michigan’s International Institute. In this role, Warsan oversees the center's budget and ensures regulatory compliance. She also supports the implementation, promotion, and evaluation of program initiatives, including community outreach.
Prior to joining, Warsan worked at the Refugee Development Center (RDC), a nonprofit working to provide critical services for refugees in mid-Michigan. There, Warsan worked as a Program Lead helping implement programs that help refugees thrive in Michigan. In addition to that she has completed internships at eBay working on strategic grant-making and internal communications, and at Reynolds American as a consumer marketing intern.
Warsan is a Canadian who grew up in the UAE, Qatar, Somalia, United States, and India. In addition to English, Warsan is fluent in Somali, with strong conversational Arabic skills. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in Communications with a concentration in Organizational Communications and a minor in Business. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, volunteering, and cooking for friends and family.
