Sharon Herbert is J. G. Pedley Collegiate Professor of Classical Archaeology and Greek and Curator of Greek and Hellenistic Collections and former Director (1997-2013) of the Kelsey Museum. She has served as Chair of the Department of Classical Studies and Director of the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology. Her research specialties include Hellenistic Egypt and the Near East and ancient ceramics. She has directed archaeological excavations in Italy, Greece, Israel, and Egypt.
Her current research involves identifying the continuing traces of Phoenician culture in the material record of the Hellenistic era and centers on excavation and publication of sites in northern Israel, the hinterland of the ancient Phoenician city of Tyre. She has published her work on Tel Anafa in the Upper Galilee and Coptos in Egypt. She is now working, together with Andrea Berlin, on the publication of their excavations at Kedesh of the Upper Galilee.
