About
A native speaker of Hehe and Swahili languages, Marko J. Mwipopo comes from Mafinga, Tanzania. He earned his BA in education from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in 2004. He received both his MA in language teaching specialization and PhD in education from the University of Oregon in 2007 and 2016 respectively. Between the years, he taught Swahili to both high school and college students, mainly from all over the US. He currently teaches the Swahili language as a lecturer in the Department of African-American and African Studies (DAAS). His interests include Swahili language teaching and assessment, teaching about: bilingual education, education for indigenous people, democratic education, indigenous people’s education, and qualitative research methods.
