About
Originally from Quito, Ecuador, Julio Beltrán holds a master’s degree in international studies from Ohio University and a multilingual bachelor’s degree in international business and relations from the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Ecuador. After completing his MA, Julio joined the Center for Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University, where he managed the center’s fiscal and administrative operations and supported the planning of academic and cultural programs. He also co-founded the Capoeira in the Classroom outreach project, an experiential learning program, which introduced numerous K–12 students and educators to Afro-Brazilian culture through movement, music, and history. Julio has practiced capoeira for more than 18 years and currently supports the activities of the Brazilian Michigan Cultural Center in Ypsilanti. Previously, Julio worked as a political analyst for Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Relations and Human Mobility and served as an electoral observer in Peru and Haiti.
