About
Irene Gonzaga is a Filipino language lecturer in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, Southeast Asian Languages Program at the University of Michigan (U-M). She joined the university in the fall of 2018 and started teaching all levels— beginner, intermediate, and advanced—of the Filipino language and culture classes.
Since the summer of 2019, Gonzaga represented U-M and joined the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, teaching all levels of the Filipino language. She is currently the Filipino coordinator of the program since 2021.
In the fall of 2020, she was the Filipino language instructor at the Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University, where she taught Filipino Professional Acquisition Course to U.S. Military Personnel.
Before immigrating to the U.S. in January 2017, Gonzaga was an associate professor at De La Salle University-Dasmarinas in the Philippines from July 1997 to September 2016, where she taught various Filipino language classes to foreigners and non-Filipino language speakers.
