About
Caitlyn (Caity) Marentette is an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania. Her research is concerned with South Asian literature across Indic, Islamicate, and colonial worlds, c. 1600-2000. Her latest research interests include language vernacularization and vernacular performance; literary community formation; the history of the printing press; and theories of affect, rasa, and translation. Her MA thesis will cross-analyze popular Bengali language short stories written in the early 20th century to explore how emotional expression was produced, pronounced, and shared among reading publics in Kolkata. Caity’s research languages include Bangla, Hindi, and German, and she is a former recipient of the Critical Language Scholarship. She attends the University of Michigan as an academic year Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) fellow.
