The Wallenberg Institute partnered with the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research to kick off The Study of Undergraduate Perceptions of Ethnic and Religious Backgrounds (SUPERB) on September 25, 2025. SUPERB looks at how beliefs about different religious and ethnic groups develop over the course of undergraduate studies at U-M and how those beliefs relate to students' identities. Findings will support efforts to foster positive intergroup relations and further understandings of how upbringing and experiences at college interact to inform those beliefs. The Institute plans to use the survey results not only to learn how campus affects students over time, but also to determine the best ways to advise university and national leadership in setting best practices for a welcoming and respectful campus environment for all.
