About
I was born at the Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital, grew up in Ann Arbor and probably have always worn maize and blue before I could even speak! I am currently a junior at Michigan’s School of Public Health studying in their Public Health Sciences program and minoring in Sociology of Health and Medicine. As a new Peer Facilitator, you can expect me to always have snacks, a fun Zoom background, and pretend I have extensive knowledge on how to play Kahoot. I am more than excited to meet all of my students.
On campus I am apart of the Black Undergraduate Medical Association and volunteer tutoring elementary students at 826michgian. Additionally, I am heavily involved with researching in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division at Michigan’s Department of OBGYN. UROP has given me the incredible opportunity to develop my interests in being an advocate for women’s health and health disparities. If it was not for UROP, I would have had a much longer path to finding my love of studying Public Health and Sociology as a combined education. This program has tremendously helped me and many other students find great mentors and projects that have real impact in the medical research community. After completing my academic year with UROP, I studied abroad in Nanjing, China and was fortunate enough to articulate my research to Chinese students I met at my host institution. This is just one example of how UROP gave me the skills to network and discuss my research initiatives.
Other than traveling different cities in China, my favorite place that I have ever traveled to in the world would have to be South Africa. There I got to explore and fell in love with the amazing food, culture, and people. I love talking to people about different countries and cultures. I think it is something unique that can bring all of us together- even in a year like 2020.
After graduating in 2022 I wish to pursue a dual degree MD/MPH program that will allow me to dive deeper into my medical and public health interests at the professional level. The mentors I have met through UROP have shown me how working as an MD is a diverse spectrum of positions and fields that are all so interesting.
