About
Welcome to my bio! I am a senior studying biophysics and am hoping to go to medical school after a gap year. If all goes to plan and I don't find myself falling to senioritis, I will be graduating May 2021! I was born in Japan and have lived in both Tokyo and Ann Arbor throughout my life. Being a Japanese American that has had the lucky experience to live in both countries has had a huge impact on my identity, and as a result, I have found myself very involved with Japan Student Association here on campus.
UROP gave me an opportunity to be a part of research teams as an undergraduate, and allowed me to take concepts that I learned in class and help me see their application. At the same time, the research experiences deepened my understanding of the real world, and in turn, developed my ability to comprehend concepts beyond their surface. More than ever before, I have been able to connect the knowledge I have accumulated through academic coursework of all subjects to aspects of the real world. What I learned from my experience as a UROP student is something that I hope to pass on to the next generation of bright individuals interested in research.
While I don't know what this semester will look like, typically, you can find me drinking coffee or boba, if not both. When I'm not engaging in school work, I am spending time with friends, complaining about the cloudy weather and windy days. My biggest regret as a senior is not putting myself out there more when I was a first year student -- I wish I joined more clubs, looked for more opportunities, asked more questions, talked to more professors. This university offers many unique experiences that can shape you in unimaginable ways. For anyone that may be reading this bio, I'll sign off by encouraging you to try something new today.
