About
Hello!!! My name is Emma Gijsbers and I am a senior studying Spanish and International Studies with a Global Environment and Health subplan. After graduation, my friend and I will be taking a cross country roadtrip and exploring the American national parks. Following that, I plan to work at a hostel in southern Portugal and then at a hostel in Hvar, Croatia for four months (if the EU will have me) before coming back and working for a couple years to pay off some of my undergraduate debt before attending a dual-degree graduate program in Environmental Policy and Social Data Science. In the long run, I’d like to make a career in environmental policy/consulting/ energy innovation or something similar, but I am open to anything and I enjoy not knowing exactly what I’ll be doing. I am very interested in international affairs, however, I believe that our local communities deserve our government’s attention and resources before we can begin to focus our attention internationally. My dream is to hike the Appalatian and the PCT in their entireties. I love this program because it introduced me to the project that gave me a mentor, a job and skills that I will carry with me forever. I am still with this project and I have contributed to papers and presentations and this year, I wrote the first drafts of the intro, methods and discussion and did the data analysis for our paper to be published in the new year. This past semester I studied abroad in Granada, Spain until i was kicked out of the country due to covid. Granada is absolutely my favorite place with the best views, mountains, coffee and the friendliest people in the entire world. I love discussing politics, the environment, political ideologies, cool places to travel, my study abroad experiences (obviously), college football, and reality TV; talk to me about any or all!!!
