About
I plan to graduate in 2021 with a B.S. in Biomolecular Science and minors in Cultures and Literatures of Eastern Europe and Medical Anthropology with a goal to pursue an MD or MD/PHD.
I grew up in Norridge, IL which is on the northwest border of Chicago so, I had a perfect blend of suburban atmosphere with city life since the CTA station was a 10 minute walk from my house. I figure skated competitively from a young age until I broke my hip in high school. I also attended a Polish language school every Saturday until 16. Both of my parents are immigrants from Poland, so the culture and language of the country is a big part of my life which is why I’m on the executive board for the Polish Student Association on campus. I’m also a first generation college student so my education is not only important to me but also to my parents who have sacrificed a lot for the opportunities I have today. I also try to help other first generation students with my role as President for the First Generation College Students @Michigan.
I love UROP because it has grown into so much more than I ever expected it to be when I applied to the program my freshman year. At first, I applied for work study not knowing what research really was and thinking that I would mostly just be cleaning beakers in a lab. However, as I began working, I’ve learned to think critically while being trained on different scientific instruments and experimental procedures. The program has led me to search for other research opportunities as well. For example, I’ve worked on Alzheimer’s research at the University of Chicago and earned the LSA Internship Scholarship to continue my current University of Michigan research remotely this past summer.
Anyone who has ever known me knows that I have an unexplainable passion for napping. I am extremely good at fitting in naps at random times during the day whether it would be in the coziness of my own bedroom or on the wooden seats of the UGLI. When I’m not napping, I love consuming my body weight in sushi, having movie marathons with friends, or giving unconditional love to my dog. Quarantining has also gotten me involved in acrylic painting and taking evening bike rides and roller blading with my family.
