Become a Peer Facilitator

UROP Peer Facilitators serve as a liaison and program guide for UROP students. In this capacity, Peer Facilitators support prospective UROP student researchers by helping them find research projects, sharing information about academic and other campus resources, serving as a liaison between student researchers and faculty mentors, and planning programs for and facilitating research seminars for their peer group. Other responsibilities include giving presentations about UROP and helping with program-wide activities such as the Spring Research Symposium.  UROP Peer Facilitators also serve as UROP ambassadors at high schools, for campus recruitment events, and on panels to promote the benefits of UROP to students, faculty, alumni, and potential donors.

Hours: 12-15 hours each week. Hours include scheduled office hours, leading research seminars and attending staff meetings alternating with research seminars. Seminars are typically held from 4:00-5:30pm on Tuesdays. Selected Peer Facilitators must commit to working both Fall and Winter terms.

Eligibility: Peer Facilitators must be third or fourth year students by the fall term in which they serve and be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.8 or above.  Applicants should have completed one full year in UROP. (Note: Students who plan to be Resident Advisors are ineligible to be a UROP Peer Facilitator because of the time and training demands of both positions.)

Training: Peer Facilitators will participate in a 40 hour staff training program typically held during the last week of August. Training is mandatory and individuals who cannot attend the entire training session will lose their peer facilitator position.

Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year will be open from December 2, 2024 through January 31, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. (E.S.T.).
