About
Hi! My name is Nicholas Ortega, and I am a Biology major in the LSA Honors Program with an expected graduation year of 2027. I transferred to the University of Michigan from Indiana University Bloomington in Fall 2025. I am on the pre-med track and am especially interested in cardiovascular medicine, cardio-oncology, and clinical research. After graduation, I hope to attend medical school and continue combining patient care with research.
At Michigan, I have been involved in UROP research focused on cardiovascular health and cancer treatment. What I enjoy most about UROP is the opportunity to learn directly from mentors, build practical research skills, and be part of a community that makes research feel more approachable for students. As a Peer Facilitator, I hope to help students feel confident navigating the research process, especially if they are starting with little or no prior experience.
Outside of class, I enjoy working out, learning languages, fishing, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. I am originally from Brazil, and my experiences moving between different schools, cultures, and communities have shaped my interest in supporting others as they adjust to new environments.
