About
Hi! I’m Kelly, a rising senior and returning life sciences peer facilitator from Northville, MI, studying biochemistry with a minor in music. I’m hoping to attend graduate school after graduation for a PhD in chemical biology, with an emphasis on the protein contributors to cancer and other diseases. Afterwards, I hope to enter academia with the goal of making science and scientific research more accessible to the public. I’m currently doing research in the Ragsdale lab in the Department of Biological Chemistry studying heme chaperones and homeostasis.
It was UROP that allowed me to experience research for the first time, and I ended up pivoting from a pre-med path to hoping to pursue research as a career. Now, I feel so lucky to be a PF and help other students discover research as well, either to consider it as a career or just to experience the valuable skills it teaches in any field. I also love the diverse and supportive community that UROP brings together with students, PFs, and staff. Outside of UROP, I am the life sciences associate editor for Michigan’s Undergraduate Research Journal (UMURJ) and one of the vice presidents of Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity on campus. I also love reading, playing tennis, hammocking in the diag, all music (especially live!), and long walks on campus. I’m also an avid foodie hoping to try as many restaurants in the area as possible, and I love how diverse and fun the food scene is in Ann Arbor!
