About
My name is Sarah Stolar, and I am double majoring in International Studies and Romance Languages and Literatures with a minor in Program in the Environment. I am from Minnetonka, Minnesota, and I plan to graduate after the Winter 2024 semester. I love Michigan because it is a great place to experience unique and fun traditions during any season of the year (especially fall and winter). In Ann Arbor, you can find me at one of many independent coffee shops, the Weiser Hall plant room, Detroit Street Filling Station, the Arb, or with my roommates on the slanted front porch of our house!
I love staying active, and will participate in anything from yoga, to running, to flag football, but my favorites are beach volleyball and kickboxing. I am also an avid reader and writer, and love writing creative non-fiction stories. On campus, I am involved in Sigma Iota Rho (International Studies Honor Society), Kappa Alpha Pi Pre-Law fraternity, Books for a Benefit (a literary service organization), and Statement Magazine at The Michigan Daily. I was also able to study abroad in Paris during my junior year, along with several other Wolverines, and it was an extremely enriching experience.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in UROP my freshman year, and for being able to return to the community as a Peer Facilitator this year. I was very fortunate in my mentor selection, as she, along with my seminar classes, introduced me to the complex world of research and academia in an approachable and welcoming manner. UROP was one of few year-long consistencies during COVID, and created an immediate community within a large and, at the time, disconnected school. My project exposed me to the often abstract field of social science research and has inspired me to pursue further projects in this academic area of extreme societal significance. I plan to pursue law school after graduation, and eventually practice environmental law, and my experiences in research will no doubt be of great value as I continue my education and future career.
