About
I am a junior hoping to graduate in May 2025. My field of study is Latina/o Studies and Biochem, these are my interests because I truly enjoy learning about my own culture, the health disparities that exist within the Latinx community and am also a huge chemistry fan! I grew up in Detroit and Lincoln Park, Michigan. I come from immigrant parents from Mexico, and during vacation, I like being in their homeland of Oaxaca, Mexico because I enjoy the amount of nature that surrounds it and am a huge fan of Mexican food! Being supper extroverted, I love meeting friends and having social conversations with friends or people I meet. My favorite part about UROP is how much support it gives students and the amount of community that I have built throughout my involvement. It really provides so much support for everyone. I am a huge bubble tea and coffee fan, so most of my free time, i'll be in any shop around campus! After graduation, I plan on attending dental school with dreams of opening my own dental practice in underserved areas to give oral care access to people with subsidized insurance. I love being involved in my community by volunteering and on the weekends, I serve as an ESL tutor for immigrants from Latin America. I dream of helping to break barriers within first-generation students and dream of helping raise the amount of Latina women in healthcare!
Throughout college, I have continued being part of Michigan’s undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP), where I am conducting research at the Nor lab focusing on growing cancer cells, and creating future experiments. For over two years, I have served on board for La Casa, the largest Latinx student organization here, at The University of Michigan, that strives to give Latino/a student’s resources, support and community. I am involved in the Pre-Dental Student Association where I coach and mentor students so that they too, can achieve their goals of becoming dentists in the future. I am super passionate about higher education and helping students in academia.
