by Marciel Peres, Video Coordinator

Teaching spaces across LSA have recently undergone a significant wave of audio-visual upgrades. These enhancements span across various buildings and facilities, aiming to provide state-of-the-art communication technology capabilities to support teaching, learning, and public engagement. The MClassrooms Database is a great resource to find spaces with specific technology or other amenities.

Angell Hall Auditorium A and Auditorium B Upgrades

Angell Hall Auditorium A and Auditorium B have undergone comprehensive updates to incorporate the latest standard digital Audio Visual Over Internet Protocol (AVoIP) presentation systems. These upgrades encompass a range of cutting-edge features, including new Spectrum Honors height-adjustable podiums, LSA Technology Services’ teaching equipment resources, wireless presentation capabilities, and enhanced projection booths. Notably, Angell Hall Auditorium A now boasts a new 35,000-Lumen, native 4K resolution, Pure RGB laser engine projector, while Auditorium B has received an upgrade to its current projector, enhancing its capabilities with on-board file server storage and HDMI 2.0 input. Roughly 3,100 students will benefit from these upgrades in fall semester 2024.

Enhancements in Other Campus Facilities

Beyond Angell Hall, several other buildings and spaces have also undergone significant AV upgrades. The Chemistry Building's large lecture halls have received new audio systems, amplifiers, microphones, and assistive listening systems, with specific enhancements such as new loudspeakers in Chem 1200 and a brighter projector in Chem 1640. The Undergraduate Science Building's Introductory Biology ClassLab spaces have been updated to new LSA Technology Services’ ClassLab AV Standards, featuring enhanced audio systems (digital HDBaseT and Dante DSP audio systems), along with the addition of Bluetooth connectivity for users.

Impact on Teaching and Learning

These extensive technology upgrades are poised to have a profound impact on the teaching and learning experience. The integration of advanced AV technologies, such as AVoIP systems and high-resolution projectors, is expected to elevate the quality of presentations, lectures, and multimedia content delivery. Furthermore, the inclusion of features like Lecture Recording systems and Zoom hybrid/streaming capabilities in the auditoriums signifies a concerted effort to enhance accessibility and engagement for both in-person and remote audiences.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, LSA, with support from the Provost’s Office, is committed to furthering its AV infrastructure improvements, with ongoing renovations in spaces such as the Modern Languages Building and the Trotter Multicultural Center. These endeavors reflect a dedication to providing a technologically advanced and inclusive environment for academic and community activities. The university's collaborative efforts across various departments and facilities underscore a collective commitment to creating modern, adaptable, and user-friendly AV spaces for the benefit of students, faculty, and staff.
