Embracing Innovation and Collaboration at the Generative AI Center of Excellence

LSA’s new center is ready to help you leverage AI tools to increase your impact and ease your stress!
by Sandy Rozek, Workflow Automation Specialist

In January 2025, LSA Technology Services launched the Generative AI Center of Excellence, staffed by Nancy Herlocher and Sandy Rozek. This new center aims to optimize administrative processes by leveraging AI and other tools, but it’s not just about the technology–it’s about the people. The ultimate goal is to ease the administrative burden for LSA staff, freeing up time and energy for staff to focus on their most impactful and enjoyable work.

Some of the key goals of the Generative AI Center of Excellence are:

  • Building awareness and understanding, including hosting informational sessions and workshops about the potential benefits and considerations of AI and other process improvement tools.

  • Promoting collaborative innovation, including gathering feedback from various units and creating pilot programs that involve staff.

  • Ensuring ethical and responsible use of AI and related technologies, with a particular focus on data privacy, security, accessibility, and fairness.

  • Supporting skill development by offering training tailored to different levels of familiarity and comfort with the new technologies.

  • Evaluating and communicating impact through assessment activities and sharing success stories and lessons learned as LSA engages in these activities together.

Currently, this new center is offering consultations with staff in LSA who want to learn more about AI technologies available within the U-M environment (such as Maizey and U-M GPT) or who need assistance with some process in their unit that would benefit from AI or automation tools. This spring and summer, the center staff will start offering regular office hours, lunch and learn sessions, and workshops.

Your input and needs are important as LSA engages in this collaborative work. If you have questions or requests, please reach out via the center's interest form.
