Winter Workshop & Mentoring Program

Students should demonstrate strong academic potential, with an interest in connecting with graduate students and faculty around research and mentorship opportunities. Preference is given to individuals who have little to no research experience and are unsure how to get involved. University of Michigan CSP and transfer students are especially encouraged to apply. The program is aimed to support first through junior year Psychology & Biopsychology, Cognition & Neuroscience (BCN) majors or intended majors, with a particular focus on students who meet one or more of the criteria below:

• Come from an educational, cultural, or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study in your discipline in the United States or at the University of Michigan;
• Have demonstrated a commitment to diversity in the academic, professional, or civic realm through their work experience, volunteer engagement, or leadership of student or community organizations. By diversity, we mean efforts to reduce social, educational, or economic disparities based on race, ethnicity, or gender, or to improve race relations in the U.S.;
  
• Have experienced financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances;
• Are first generation U.S. citizens or first generation in their families to graduate from a four-year college

Students who participate will recieve mentoring by a current graduate student, participate in informational panels and skill workshops, have the opprotunity to network with professionals and faculty and will attend scientific talks and discussions.

Our ultimate goal is to prepare you with research skills so you can be a competitive candidate for research positions, graduate school or the industry/private sector job market.

Applicants will submit written responses to a series of short answer questions (areas of interest with Psychology; career/educational goals; and purpose for participating in this program, etc) and submit a C.V. or Resume, which may include information such as: education, work experience, professional and non-professional affiliations, awards and honors, service and volunteer activities, special skills, publications/presentations, hobbies. Note - many qualified applicants may not have information in all of these categories.
