Our Funding Priorities
As we re-emerge from the pandemic, our greatest need in the Psychology Department is to support undergraduate and graduate student research, which is more vital now than ever before.
Psychology Students Tackling Advanced Research (STAR) Fund
Undergraduate students who participate in research gain stronger critical thinking and data analysis skills, improved grades and graduation rates, and overall better career outcomes. These benefits are especially impactful for first-generation students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students from groups underrepresented in the sciences, but these students are often less likely to participate in research. To address that disparity, the Department created the Students Tackling Advanced Research (STAR) program, which equips students with knowledge and skills to secure research positions. Through workshops and mentoring from graduate students and faculty, STAR scholars learn about the current research landscape to help them identify opportunities that best reflect their own passions and values. STAR has been remarkably successful. Last year, four times as many under-represented students participated in research compared to before STAR was established. Your support will ensure that STAR continues that success and helps even more students reap the benefits of research in the future.
Psychology Graduate Student Research Fund
Graduate students collaborate with faculty-led research teams and play a vital role in scientific research and discovery. Contributions to the Graduate Student Research Fund will help cover fellowships, research supplies, travel to research sites, attendance at scientific meetings, scientific poster and publication costs, and other costs associated with cutting-edge research. Your gift will have a real impact on the opportunities for scientific discovery that we can offer to our graduate students. Your generous support will help us recruit and retain top-notch young scientists and prepare them to chart the future of psychological science.
Psychology Strategic Fund
The Department of Psychology is ranked among the top three nation-wide, and many of our specialized programs are ranked first or second. Investing in the strategic fund helps us carry on the Department’s tradition of excellence. Gifts to this fund make it possible to enhance the research and training of our undergraduate and graduate students, and to recruit, retain and support our exceptional faculty. The strategic fund also provides resources for newly emerging and focused initiatives, including our effort to recognize the vital role of faculty mentorship in our students’ educational experiences. Your support will be an endorsement of our efforts!
