Lilia Popova, an Ann Arbor-Huron High School student and member of the Schiefelbein Lab, has been selected to be a finalist in the 2013 Intel Science Talent Search, the most prestigious pre-college science competition.

The forty finalists represent the top two percent of all applicants, of which there are over 1700. The competition includes an all expense paid trip to Washington DC in March where Lilia will be presenting her work on "Elucidating Environmental and Genetic Mechanisms of Magnetically Altered Plant Growth". She will also have the opportunity to meet important members of the scientific community and political leaders, including President Obama. Lilia is the first finalist from Ann Arbor and the only finalist from Michigan this year.

Lilia has been featured in the Ann Arbor News and will be featured in an upcoming U-M news article.
