About
Nana-Yaw Andoh is Assistant Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies, specializing in urban studies, informal settlements, and policy impacts on the built environment. He earned his Ph.D. in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Michigan, and both his Master of Architecture & Design Urbanism and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame.
As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Andoh brings extensive experience spanning international development and domestic urban challenges. His field research in Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa has resulted in strategic partnerships with local organizations and multinational agencies, including collaborative reports with UN-Habitat on urban law and climate change legislation. In the United States, his work has achieved tangible policy impacts in Rochester, NY, and strategic research for Detroit's neighborhood revitalization efforts. His scholarship appears in the Journal of the American Planning Association, Journal of Sustainable Research, and Oxford Bibliographies in African Studies. Dr. Andoh's teaching centers on race, space, and urban development, integrating planning, policy, and cultural perspectives while mentoring students in research projects and policy analysis.
