In Our Own Words: The Stories That Shape Us

An LCE Student Storytelling Event
Monday, November 16, 2026
5:00-7:00 PM
Assembly Hall Rackham Graduate School (Horace H.) Map
Every story shapes who we are and how we connect with others. What makes you who you are, and what can your story teach someone else?

Join LCE for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and creative expression featuring keynote speaker Elizabeth James, U-M Department of Afroamerican and African Studies Program Associate and third-generation storyteller whose work celebrates storytelling across cultures and generations.

Through conversation, guided reflection, and hands-on art activities, attendees will explore different perspectives and discover how storytelling can deepen our understanding of ourselves and one another.

We invite students from across the university to slow down, reflect, and connect through visual storytelling activities, including collage and painting.

All students are welcome, and dinner will be provided! Students who RSVP and attend will also receive a special gift.
