U-M Professor Honored by Indonesian Embassy
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 10- The Indonesian Embassy recognized U-M Professor Nancy K. Florida for her tireless devotion to the advancement of Indonesian and Javanese history, language, and writing through her scholarship and teaching.
Florida is director of the International Institute's Islamic Studies Program and a professor of Indonesian Languages and Literatures in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures.
Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, Indonesian ambassador to the United States, presented the award to Florida in a small ceremony held at the International Institute.
Also present at the ceremony were members of the Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian Consulate in Chicago, Dr. Allen Hicken, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, and CSEAS affiliated faculty and students.

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Michigan International Institute emerged in the fall of 1999 from the former Center for South and Southeast Asian Studies, which was established in 1961.
