Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowships

This US Department of Education (US/ED) program funds fellowships through institutions of higher education to faculty members who propose to conduct research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies to improve their skill in languages and their knowledge of the culture of the people of these countries. Fellowship funds support international travel to/from the country or countries of research, maintenance stipend related to the faculty member’s academic year salary, and modest allowance for direct research-related expenses.

Basic Application Process

The International Institute (II) administers this program on behalf of the U-M Ann Arbor campus and coordinates the institutional application process. The II Director serves as the FRA Project Director for the Ann Arbor campus. Faculty applicants submit their application to the International Institute, and the II will combine all eligible faculty applications into an institutional application and coordinate its submission to US/ED. All successful faculty fellowships will be administered through the II.

For more detailed application instructions and application resources, join the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Canvas site.
