Ph.D. Candidate in History and Women's and Gender Studies
About
Shireen Ahad Guru is a Ph.D.candidate in the joint program in Women's and Gender Studies and History. She is interested in women of color organizers in the United States from the 1960s to the 1990s. In particular, she hopes to look at social networks, care, and interpersonal relationships with a focus on friendship. In 2021, Shireen received a B.A. with Honors from Johns Hopkins University in History. From 2021-2023, she was a research fellow in the Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab at the University at Buffalo where she researched the impact of the kitchen table on Black women activists in the East Buffalo community.
