Shelley Ann Shock (1965-2024)
Shelley Shock passed away on February 8, 2024. Shelley served thirty-four years on University of Michigan staff, until her death. She followed in the footsteps of her mother, Dorothy Hudock, who served for decades in Mathematics. In 2004 Shelley came to the Women’s Studies Department and worked here until 2016, when administrative restructuring eliminated her position.
Throughout her twelve years in Women’s Studies, Shelley served the Department with diligence and expertise, grace and good humor. With singular efficiency she administered multiple crucial work streams, including teaching and class logistics, expense reimbursements, departmental events and meetings, and others. Working from the front desk, she also warmly greeted all who entered and shared her deep departmental knowledge to help students, faculty, and visitors navigate toward their goals.
Shelley was an animal lover who cared for many rescue pets over the years and kindly kept up on co-workers’ human and animal family members. She was a valued and beloved member of our community, and she is missed in Women’s and Gender Studies, where her contributions live on. WGS faculty sponsored a grove of 220 trees planted n loving memory of Shelley Ann Shock.
