Eimeel Castillo

Eimeel Castillo, a recent alumna of the joint PhD program in History and Women’s and Gender Studies, has published her first peer-reviewed journal article.

Castillo’s article, “‘Women of the Happy Life’: Prostitution, Public Morality, and Venereal Disease in US-Occupied Nicaragua, 1912-33,” was published this month in Gender & History. In this piece, she analyzes the legal regulation of prostitution and its implications for understandings of femininity and female sexuality during the U.S. occupation of Nicaragua.

You can read the article with a University of Michigan Libraries login at Wiley Online Library.

Congratulations, Dr. Castillo!
