Seda Saluk

Seda Saluk, Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies, published a recent article, “Banning abortion is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes,” in The Conversation and Rewire News Group.

In the article, Professor Saluk details the historical patterns of targeting abortion, distinguishes the US in a global context, and defends the importance of reproductive freedoms. She writes, “when a government erects barriers to comprehensive reproductive care, it doesn’t just cause more death and suffering for women and their families. Such policies are often a first step in the gradual decline of democracies.”

She concludes: “When the government starts stripping away any of these rights, I believe it signals serious trouble for democracy."

Congratulations, Professor Saluk!
