Patrick Grzanka

Patrick Grzanka, University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor and Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Psychology, recently co-authored a paper that won the 2026 George A. Miller Award for Outstanding Recent Article in General Psychology from American Psychological Association (APA) Division 1, the Society for General Psychology & Interdisciplinary Inquiry.

Professor Grzanka co-wrote with Boston College colleagues David Blustein, Michael Gordon, Camille Smith, as well as Blake Allan of the University of Houston. Their paper, “The Psychology of Precarity: A Critical Framework,” presents “a new critical framework for precarity, which reflects a psychosocial concept that links structural inequities with experiences of alienation, anomie, and uncertainty.” Their paper was published in 2025 in American Psychologist, the flagship journal of the APA.

The George A. Miller Award recognizes outstanding articles on general psychology published within the past three years. As winners of this award, the authors are also invited to give an address at the APA Annual Convention.
