Anna Kirkland

WGS Professor Anna Kirkland was quoted in a recent Politico article on vaccine skepticism. As the Politico poll finds many Americans express doubt about vaccines, Professor Kirkland adds context:

The Covid pandemic "broadened that coalition” of anti-vaccine activists that had long been dominated by women by mobilizing men and right-leaning individuals who opposed masking and stay-at-home requirements. Now that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a long-time anti-vaccine advocate, is the country’s top health official, “he is reaching a lot of people, including people who haven’t paid much attention before” to vaccines. Professor Kirkland wrote a book on our vaccine injury compensation system and recently explained how Secretary Kennedy might try to dismantle that system in this piece for The Conversation.

Anna Kirkland is the Kim Lane Scheppele Collegiate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor with courtesy appointments in Law, Sociology, Political Science, and Health Management and Policy.
