Nadine (Dean) Hubbs, Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Music and Faculty Associate in American Culture, and Director of the Lesbian-Gay-Queer Research Initiative (LGQRI) was interviewed for an article in ABC News . In the article, Nadine emphasized the impact of queer music dominating the airwaves and pop culture, including the music festival All Things Go. She remarked “These artists are heard by lots of people, not only women who identify as lesbian or queer and not only women. They are charting in the top 40 and they are playing stages like ‘Saturday Night Live.” Furthermore, their impact includes “providing community and solidarity for other young women in the spotlight to come out.” As the demand for tickets to see queer women headliners seems to only increase, Chappel Roan, (who was slated to headline All Things Go until she withdrew due to mental health reasons), Janelle Monae, Reneé Rapp, Muna, and more, it is clear to see that queer women artists are commercial and pop culture successes – and show no signs of slowing down.
