WCOnline, the software used to manage Sweetland’s Writing Workshop and Peer Writing Center consultations, has introduced several exciting updates in the past year. One major improvement is the addition of Single Sign-On (SSO), which allows students to log in and clock in for appointments using their U-M credentials. This change has drastically reduced issues with password-related problems.
WCOnline now also features third-party app integration, making it possible to use Zoom or Google Meet for online Writing Workshop appointments. Two faculty members tested this feature in the fall semester, and it will be available to others starting in Winter 2025.
Additionally, a new landing page option directs students to specific schedules, which has been especially helpful for the Peer Writing Centers. Improvements to reporting tools and behind-the-scenes upgrades have further enhanced the platform’s overall functionality.
These updates come following changes within WCOnline last year. In Fall 2023, we learned of ownership changes and a significant price increase. This led us to investigate other appointment software options. We met with three different vendors and communicated with U-M campus partners who were also exploring alternatives, and held discussions with WCOnline’s new owners to hear about planned updates and improvements. In the end, we determined that few other systems would work as well for a complex writing center like Sweetland. Thanks to WCOnline’s excellent customer service, the ability to combine two licenses into one, and its promising updates, we decided to continue using the platform.
If you have any questions or suggestions for further improvements, please let us know. WCOnline continues to seek customer feedback and is committed to ongoing improvements.
