At Sweetland, we understand that not all disabilities will be formally diagnosed or registered with SSD (Services for Students with Disabilities). In accordance with our commitment to access for all, we do not require students to be registered with SSD, be officially diagnosed, or self-disclose in order to receive accommodations—simply tell us what your access needs are and we will do our best to meet them!

Peer Writing Center consulting @ PASS (undergraduate)
For students registered with SSD, Peer Writing Center consulting is available at one of Academic Support & Access Partnerships (ASAP)’s weekly Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS). These sessions are entirely virtual. You must sign up for PASS through SSD’s website in order to use this service.
Accessibility Benefits:
- Less structured time limits—may be shorter or longer than a standard session
- No competition with the general student body for appointments
- Allows for virtual “walk-ins” (for those already signed up for PASS)
All of our consultants have accessibility training, and many have particular expertise in specific areas of writing. If you are interested in making a selection based on a consultant’s particular strengths or getting to know your consultant in advance, we encourage you to browse the consultant bios available on our People page.
How to Indicate Your Disability Status in WCOnline
Indicating your disability status in your WCOnline profile can help ensure that every consultation meets your access needs. You can let us know about your disability status and accommodation preferences in the following ways:
- When signing up for a new WCOnline account—mention your disability or access needs when answering the question regarding your accessibility needs.
- If you have already created an account—log into your account, click “Welcome, YOURNAME,” then click “Profile and Communication Options.” You can add information about your disability status or access needs to your profile there.
- When signing up for an appointment—you will be invited again to indicate any access needs for the session. Please feel free to use this to reflect any needs specific to this assignment, consultation, or period of time.
All disclosures are voluntary and confidential, and are solicited only in order to provide the best possible experience to all users of Sweetland services. We are actively working to increase the flexibility we can offer, so please inform us of any accessibility shortcomings you face in using our spaces and services by emailing sweetlandinfo@umich.edu.
