Autumn Cole
Jen Alexander

Sweetland welcomes the work of our new Graduate Student Intern, Autumn Cole, under the supervision of Student Services Assistant, Jen Alexander. Autumn is a first year master’s student studying higher education through the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. In May 2024, Autumn received her bachelor’s degree in international studies from U-M. She is passionate about international higher education and hopes to focus her career on promoting the global exchange of education. Outside of her schooling, Autumn enjoys reading, writing for the Michigan Daily, attending plays and musicals, and running.

Autumn and Jen’s work aims to facilitate the transfer process for undergraduate students by adding courses to Sweetland’s list of courses that automatically fulfill the First Year Writing Requirement. Autumn carefully analyzed the FYWR petitions submitted by students over the past several years to make a list of the most frequently petitioned classes. She then contacted those schools to receive syllabi and other necessary information to evaluate the classes. Together, Autumn and Jen analyzed these materials with the goal of adding them to Sweetland’s automatic transfer list. Since the start of October, Autumn has contacted 17 schools, and 11 classes from 3 schools have been added to our list of approved courses. This work is essential in bettering the experience of students who decide to transfer into U-M.

Autumn and Jen will continue this great work through the Winter semester. Autumn hopes to graduate summer 2025 and work either in international studies education or within an international students office.
