Abortion in Restricted Contexts: Uncovering Uganda

Description of the research project:

This mixed-methods project arises from three phases of data collection conducted between 2022-2023. A survey that was administered to 1,608 girls and women aged 15-49 years to explore their sexual reproductive health behaviors was followed up with 50 in-depth interviews conducted among women who have ever aborted to reveal their experiences pre-, during, and post-abortion. Finally, 55 midwives, nurses, and physicians in the maternity units of the mainly accessed public health facilities in the country’s capital were interviewed as key informants to understand their attitudes toward abortion, explore their experiences providing abortion and post-abortion care, and their own abortion-related experiences.

Description of work that will be assigned to research assistants:

Duties on this project range from short and full summary memo writing based on interview transcripts, coding and analysis of qualitative data using dedoose software, evidence abstracting, literature searches, and preliminary quantitative data analysis for the survey data among others.

-Orientation and training should be expected before any activity/duty.

-No prior knowledge of the topics of interest or duties is required.
