Upon completion of the internship, students must submit the following materials via email to socadvisor@umich.edu:
- A 9-12 page paper analyzing the internship experience using sociological concepts and ideas. This document should include: a) two to three pages of narrative about the goals and objectives of the internship and your role and duties during the internship; b) seven to ten pages analytically examining how and why the internship experience advanced your understanding of a sociological concept or theory (e.g. social reproduction, social network relations, discrimination) or field of research (e.g. LJSC, SHM, race and ethnic relations, family, formal organizations, social movements). This portion of the essay must cite five to seven scholarly sources.
- A letter from the internship supervisor confirming your internship and briefly describing your role as an intern. This letter must arrive as a direct email to socadvisor@umich.edu.
These materials are due on the last day of classes in the semester in which the student is registered. Students who complete an internship experience in the Spring/Summer term but choose to register for the SOC 396 course in the following Fall term are required to submit these materials no later than October 15.
