Robert Jansen's dissertation recognized with the 2011 Theda Skocpol Dissertation Award.
Robert Jansen’s dissertation Populist Mobilization: Peru in Historical and Comparative Perspective has been named the inaugural winner of the Theda Skocpol Dissertation Award by the Comparative and Historical Sociology Section of the American Sociology Association. The award will be presented at the August 2011 ASA annual meeting in Las Vegas. Jansen is starting his last year in the Michigan Society of Fellows and will join the department formally as a tenure-track assistant professor in Fall 2012. He completed his Ph.D at UCLA.
Michigan Sociology also was recognized in the honorable mention for this award, which went to Besnick Pula for his dissertation State, Law, and Revolution: Agrarian Power and the National State in Albania, 1850-1945 (George Steinmetz, chair).
