Professor George Steinmetz has been awarded a highly competitive fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the 2011-2012 academic year.  During this period he will be working on his project Sociologists and Empire: Scientific Autonomy and Entangled Intellectual History, a history of sociology in France, Germany, the UK and the US from 1880-present.  This research will culminate in a future book manuscript.
