POLSCI 399 is a 3-credit course for Political Science majors (and other students, with permission) to receive university credit during the semester by working a minimum of 12-hours per week during the semester as interns with various organizations all over Southeastern Michigan and beyond, including placements with state, federal, and local officials, in the legal field with private firms or in the criminal justice system, with non-profit advocacy groups, lobbyists, the media, and national and international organizations.
Students must line up their own internships but are provided with one-on-one guidance in finding placement opportunities. Coursework entails weekly online class discussion entries, three personal interviews/papers, and monthly evening remote seminar sessions with the Program Director.
The credit for POLSCI 399 counts toward a student’s Political Science major, subject to the limit on Experiential credit.
