Coordinator of Academic Integrity
About
What is your advising philosophy?
My academic philosophy is stitches, not band-aids. In other words, I believe in empowering students as they continue their journeys into adulthood by providing them with the resources that will ultimately help them throughout their lives rather than provide a quick fix.
What was your path to Newnan?
I started my career in the Stephen M. Ross Academic Center working with student-athletes here at the University of Michigan. In the beginning, I was a graduate student mentor working one-on-one with student-athletes, but eventually, I served as a full-time employee working with students and specific teams. After a few years there, I accepted a position as the Freshmen Advisor and Football Coordinator at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where I was for three years working with football, men's volleyball, and women's gymnastics student-athletes. Eventually, I returned to the Ross Academic Center working with the men's and women's lacrosse teams, as well as football student-athletes before starting in Newnan Academic Advising.
Why did you join Newnan?
The students. I enjoy working with students as they transition through college and seeing them succeed as individuals at varying levels both great and small. I enjoy helping them grow as individuals as they experience new cultures, as well as new ways of thinking, finding ways to collaborate on issues they’re truly passionate about, learning from adversity, and gaining valuable professional experiences.
Class you loved and why?
My favorite class is a class on curriculum I took with Stu Rankin at the SOE as part of my master's program. During the course we had to design our own curriculum for a high school course from the beginning of the academic year to the end. Complete with academic outcomes, topics, and resources. I enjoyed the class because it forced me to think critically in ways that I'd never had to previously. While also opening my eyes to new perspectives and a greater understanding of where everyone is coming from.
Interests and hobbies:
I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, tabletop board games, video games, sports (basketball, football primarily), watching movies/television shows, and trying new foods.
