Honors Community

The Honors Community includes students living in Honors Housing, yet encompasses all its students, whether they're pursuing their Sophomore Honors Award and or upper-division Honors through a thesis or Honors in the Engaged Liberal Arts (HELA).

A Michigan Learning Community [MLC], the LSA Honors Program not only offers an engaging curriculum, advising and student services, but also includes housing for first-year students in South Quad, as well as myriad events and engagement opportunities for all the program's members. For those working toward the Sophomore Honors Award, you'll find information about engagement points within feature articles. Honors faculty, staff, and students continue to create new and innovative options for participation, particularly those that put you in touch with each other and with peer mentors.

Here is an overview of what's around the corner. The best way to build your community is to dive in!

Honors Community opportunities include:

  • Honors First-Year Kickoff (fall) and Tipoff (winter) events.
  • Honors Seminar Series virtual series of guest speakers and alumni.
  • Geeklife Engagement Series which includes Honors Reads and Honors DEI, as well as Honors in the Arts, designed to earn Sophomore Engagement Points in your first two years, but open to all program participants.
  • Honors Resident Advisor events planned by the Honors RAs living in South Quad for all Honors students to attend.
    • Interested in Honors Housing? Visit our Housing page for more information on the benefits of living in residence!

This Week In Honors e-newsletter covers program, LSA, and cross-campus opportunities.

Bond with your community during your first year with Honors seminars:

  • Enroll in Honors 135 student-led courses based on your peers' thesis research. Find them in the fall course guide under Honors courses.
