GERMAN FILM INSTITUTE <br>The Cinema of Crisis: German Film 1928-1936

Directed by Paul Wegener. Written by Philip Lothar Mayring and Fred Andreas. With Karl Ludwig Diehl, Brigitte Horney, Hermann Speelmans and Willy Birgel.

One of the earliest Nazi propaganda films, Ein Mann will nach Deutschland tells the story of Hagen, a German engineer living in South America who hears in 1914 of war in Europe. Acknowledging his obligation to his ‘fatherland,’ he sets out for Europe, joined by a German comrade. The journey to Germany involves physical hardships, treacherous terrain, hostile seas, and even an unanticipated trip to Jamaica.
