Undergraduate Studies in German
Minors are available in Dutch, German, or Scandinavian Studies, and German is an option in the Global Engineering Program. The undergraduate major in German takes advantage of our outstanding faculty, who hold degrees in a wide range of fields, and have won numerous awards for research and teaching. One of the largest German programs in the country both in numbers of majors and minors and the size of our faculty, we are able to offer courses not only in German language and literature, but also in:
- Business German
- Scientific German
- German history
- Music, and much more!
Our courses are wide-ranging, challenging, and fun! Here are two examples from the Winter 2016 term:
German 326 - German in Song
German In Song (GERM326) was featured in our newsletter.
German 396 - Germany and the Black Diaspora
What does it mean to be black and German? And why do many people think that is a contradiction?
In winter 2016, the German Department teamed up with the History Department and the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies to explore these questions. One of the highlights of the semester was the creation of a digital map of Black Germany, which featured historical figures, paintings, and events that explained an aspect of Black German history.
