...having time to really get to know students, both as students and people. Smaller classes and more time in class and office hours make this possible. I’m also grateful to be part of students’ larger network of support in CSP, where faculty work closely with advisors and administration.

...to come out of the class with a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the material that prioritizes connection over the memorization of discrete bits of unrelated knowledge. Class sessions incorporate lectures, time to work through problems, and collaborative work that involves learning from other classmates. I’ve found that this balance helps students achieve those highly coveted a-ha moments that precipitate deep understanding. Importantly, I also prioritize self-care through reflection and incorporate short guided mindfulness exercises into most classes.

...to reach out for help and advice.  You're not in this alone and there is no such thing as a stupid question (Really!)... unless you don't ask it.

...spending time with my two kids, spending time outside in nature, reading science fiction and autobiographies, and practicing yoga and meditation.
