The Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia (WCEE) is pleased to make available grants for doctoral research projects for current PhD students at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Funding is intended to be used for work related to Europe/Eurasia.
Grants can be used to cover expenses related to fieldwork abroad, archival research in the U.S., costs associated with interview transcription and translation (when appropriate), and the purchase of survey data or software essential for the completion of the projects. Electronic and computer equipment are not eligible expenses. Please reach out to us at weiseraward@umich.edu if you have questions about other allowable expenses.
Awards will range from $5,000-$25,000 depending on duration of the project as well as expenses needed to support research.
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in full-time doctoral degree programs at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Eligible students must return to campus for at least one term prior to graduation. Applicants for research grants may be at preliminary or more advanced stages of their research, and the research project must be at least one month in length.

- Detailed budget
- Letter of recommendation from the dissertation chair (or mentor for professional school students)
Reporting: A written project report will be required at the conclusion of the grant.

Selection Process: A selection committee comprised of faculty affiliated with the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia will evaluate the applications on the following criteria: feasibility, relevance to doctoral program, relevance to the study of Europe and Eurasia, record of academic achievement, and overall quality of the application.
