Applications Due: Friday, August 22nd, 2025
The Nam Center for Korean Studies is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Graduate Student Fellows Program. All U-M graduate students in active status from any department or school are eligible to apply. Students who demonstrate a strong research interest in Korea are especially encouraged to submit an application. Previous Fellows are welcome to reapply but must submit a new application each year for consideration.
Graduate Fellows will meet regularly throughout the fall and winter terms to foster a scholarly community, engage with guest speakers and visiting scholars, and participate in collaborative activities. Fellows will also serve on the organizing committee for the Center’s annual Korean Studies graduate student conference, NEKST, which will take place in early May, 2026.
Fellows will receive a competitive advantage for funding opportunities and scholarships offered by the Center. Each Fellow is eligible for up to $500 in conference travel funding during the academic year (subject to university travel policies). Additionally, the Nam Center offers copy editing grants—up to four are awarded each year on a competitive basis—to support publication-ready articles.
Expectations for Fellows:
- Attend regularly scheduled Graduate Student Fellows meetings
- Serve on the NEKST organizing committee
- Participate in Center events, including the Korean Studies Colloquium (select Tuesdays at 4 PM)
- Engage actively in the Korean Studies community on campus
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit the following through the application form:
- Basic information about their academic program
- A brief statement (maximum 250 words) describing their interest in Korean Studies
- CV
