Tomoko Okuno, Lecturer III is Director of the RC Japanese Program, where she teaches intensive Japanese. She has been teaching summer intensive Japanese courses in Hokkaido International Foundation in Japan. Her research interests are in second language (L2) acquisition, L2 phonology, foreign language pedagogy, and Japanese linguistics. She has presented papers on corrective feedback in L2 writing; on acquisition of L2 durational contrasts; and on factors affecting acquisition of vowel duration in L2 Japanese. Her work looks at learners’ oral skills and students’ socio-affective profile following short-term study abroad. She is currently working on projects that measure and assess oral fluency and pronunciation and pre-writing strategies to improve students’ writing. She also coordinates a video-conference that connects her Japanese students with students in Japan who are learning English.
