Students who have been admitted to the Masters in International and Regional Studies (MIRS) Japanese studies specialization and have requested to defer their matriculation must reapply for fellowship funding for the year they intend to matriculate. Students may only apply for tuition and living stipend for the academic year, and will be evaluated in the same manner as other incoming Center students.
If you are eligible for the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship, we strongly encourage you to apply for this fellowship. This fellowship requires a separate application. Please go to the FLAS website for detailed information on this fellowship and links to application forms. Download and read the PDF Information Packet for graduate academic year FLAS fellowships, paying special attention to instructions for incoming East Asia NRC MA students. Students who apply for the Academic Year FLAS Fellowship in Japanese will automatically be considered for the CJS Academic Year Fellowships without completing a separate application.
Students who are NOT eligible for the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships in Japanese, such as students who are not US citizens or permanent residents, will apply directly to CJS for the Academic Year Fellowships.
